Hill climbing pratice

Post  Graeme on Sat Feb 20, 2010 4:53 pm

Hey everyone,

First off, apologies for not being around for the last 2 Saturday sessions! I've got no excuse! I woke up on Saturday at 09:42 and I DID think of you all setting off from Cosham, hehe Very Happy I went out on my own though in search of some interesting hills...

I'm sure most of you know the area better than me but I found some excellent, albeit annoying, hills in between Wickham and Hedge End. The only problem is that the road has some terrifyingly huge potholes around Botley Neutral But I was wondering if maybe we could include this (or something like) in our rides?

Also, as it's been getting lighter in the evenings I've started doing some practice after work. I've gotten stuck into the routine of leaving Portsmouth via Farlington Avenue, then dropping down past that radar test facility(?) towards Southwick, then coming back up it and repeating for as long as my little legs can handle it. So if anyone one in/around Portsmouth wants to join me you're more than welcome! I normally leave work at 16:30, but it'll be later as the evenings get lighter.
And if anyone knows of any other groovey nearby hills I'd really appreciate the input Wink

Thanks a load!!!

G2

Hi Graeme.
If you want to alternate to a steeper climb, when you drop down past the radars (Southwick Hill) keep going to the roundabout at Southwick and turn left into "Crooked Walk Lane". It starts gently then rears up to a shortish but tough steep bit then levels off to finish gently again. If you follow it right to the X roads you can turn left along the top of Portsdown Hill which will bring you back to the roundabout at the top of Southwick Hill.
ENJOY!!!

Ah I know the one you mean! I remember venturing up there once about a year ago out of curiosity and have since completely forgotten about it. That should make it more interesting indeed, especially with our current weather situation Mad
Thanks!
