DUO NORMAND - INSTRUCTIONS!!!!!
Hi Guys
It's about time I gave you some details for the Duo.
We're going over on the overnight ferry to Caen Friday night. I suggest we all meet at the pub closest to the ferry port about 8.30/9pm. I can't remember the name of the pub off-hand, but I keep coming up with The Ship?
We have 9 bikes going across and 3 cars - our car, Tim & Jane's car and Mike's car.
Mike will be borrowing Graham's car rack - can I suggest that if both of you are driving to the pub tomorrow night that you do the swap then?
Can I also suggest the following bikes/people on/in the following cars to the pub at the ferry port:
- Our car - Me, Tony and Graham
- Tim and Jane's Car - Tim, Jane, Tel & HTT
- Mike's car - Mike, Chris & Ghandi
Once we meet at the pub at the ferry port we'll need the following people in each car to board the ferry (as per ferry booking):
- Our car - Me, Tony, Tel & Chris
- Tim's and Jane's Car - Tim, Jane, Graham & HTT
- Mike's car - Mike & Ghandi
PLEASE REMEMBER YOUR PASSPORT & E111 CARD!!!
Take 2 sets of kit - 1 to pimble around the course on Saturday and 1 to race in on Sunday
You will need pocket money for snacks, lunches and dinners/drinks.
On the ferry we have 3, 4-berth cabins and we can sort who sleeps where then.
In the Etap I've booked 5 rooms so you'll need to pair up. I'm with Tony, the rest of you can sort yourselves!!
Breakfast
Rather than paying over the odds for the basic breakfast that the Etap offers I'm going to bring a basic breakfast over with us. On the list is:
Porridge (if I can get those pots that just need hot water)
weetabix
crunchy nut
rice crispies
sugar puffs
croissants
yoghurts
coffee
tea
orange juice
Subject to space and availability! If anyone has anything they want to add to the list let me know PDQ.
I need a large thermos flask - anyone got one?
You also need to bring a plastic bowl for your cereal to go in. Let me know if you don't have one, or have spares.
Itinerary
Arrive in Caen 6.45am
Drive to Marigny
Pimble around the course
Drive to the hotel
Chilax time!
Carb load dinner at the Italian Restaurant
Sunday - race
Steak & Chips load with celebratory drinks at the Buffalo grill!
Monday - ferry back from Cherbourg 12pm
Hopefully we can drop in for some takeaway wine to stock up for Xmas (ok for the following week!)
Regarding costs for the Duo I've done an estimate of costs for breakfast and for petrol/diesel for those taking their cars. As all of you doing the Duo (except Jane) were doing Majorca, I've used the money you gave me for Majorca for the Duo.
Most of you owe me between £5-£30. Tim I need some from you for Jane. Chris & Mike, I owe you!
I think that's all for now, except that if you haven't booked the Monday off work yet (no names mentioned woman) you need to do so!
Graeme I understand you need to get a doctors note as you're in the unlicenced category.
Cheers all
See you at the Castle tomorrow night.

E111 plus insurance
I am sure you realise that the E111 is not enough on its own - obviously speak from experience when Jon was in a French hospital. the E111 will cover most costs but if we hadn't had insurance there would have been quite a large bill (which I think was for the 'hotel' style costs in the hospital and getting him back again - tho a bit vague on that).
I am sure that you all have insurance but just thought I had better say in case you haven't got it!
Have a great time.

Many thanks Amanda
A very good point indeed and one that is easily overlooked.
Please check that you all have valid insurance cover before we go.

Re: DUO NORMAND - INSTRUCTIONS!!!!!
The nearest pub to the ferry port is called The Admiral Drake.
Postcode: po2 8dh
Think it might be quite rowdy on a Friday night though as it is in the heart of the Portsmouth Ghetto!!

Many thanks - just send me a text - I have a stinking cold to bring with me which you'll all be pleased about! Am taking every drug known to man right now to try and get of it before then though. If I don't get picked up tomorrow I'll know why.....
