Mont Ventoux Club Des Cingles

Hi all

I'm just gauging everyones thought's at the moment and wonderring if we can/should give it a go in 2011. Depending on numbers interested I can then look at travel options etc.

Isn't that like...40-45 miles of Beacon hill? I'm definitely up for it!

I love a challenge - looks like a long day though - I'm up for it but I will definitely have to drop a stone and get some hills in my legs before then. But we'll have Majorca for some practice by then though.

Seriously, this is a mega hard challenge - and it would be great for you to join us - so you will need to work on being able to get up Buriton before making the commitment to do Ventoux... go on you know you can do it really....

Surely it's not that bad - I read it averaged 8.9% gradient on the hardest climb Bedoin. I'm hoping Buriton is steeper than that or are there elements that are as steep as that? I was thinking it might be like sa calobra?

Sa Calobra averages 7% for 10km but it's much steeper for the 2nd half. I haven't downloaded the profiles for Ventoux but there's a good website called climbbybike.com. it has all the profiles of major EU climbs and generally has all passages for a mountain so all routes up Ventoux should be covered.

as Tony and sarah say though I imagine once you get near the top of ventoux the wind is just as punishing as the gradient
