Strava Cycling website
Hi All,
Thought it was about time for my annual post on here!
Just wanted to tell everyone about this new website/ smartphone app that I have found.
Basically, its a ride logging site with a difference. As well as all the usual features it has things called 'segments'; sections of rides- usually climbs- over which you are timed. (You can create your own 'segments'.) The system automatically registers when you have ridden a particular 'segment' and then compares your time to everyone else that has ridden it. It then produces a leader-board with your own personal ranking. Its like a mini time trial!
I've just created three new segments today; Mud Island, Emsworth to Horndean and Milton Road. As soon as I did it, it told me that I was something like 57th fastest out of 60 on the first two!!
All you need to take part is a bike computer that uploads your ride to the internet. All of the Garmin ones are compatible so too, I believe, are the new Bryton ones. If you don't have such a thing there is even a free app for iphone and Android smartphones which will record and upload your ride.
Take a look at www.strava.com. Its completely free to use. It looks like great fun.
Haven't seen everyone in a while so I hope you are all ok.

Re: Strava Cycling website

its really good but doesn't show a map or your times until you stop and then its automatically uploaded on to the website for all to see. Unless thats just on Android phones?

Re: Strava Cycling website
Hi Cathy,
I only started using it yesterday so I'm still getting to grips with it. Sounds like you are accessing it via your phone?
I'm using it with my Garmin 500 so with a little bit of fiddling around I think I may be able to get the cycle computer to alert me when I am on a segment while I am actually riding it.
Sadly that's the easy part. The difficult bit is trying to ride just that bit faster and beat my previous time.
